Senator Coleman you've lost the plot

Reg Lee

The recent allegations by Senator Noam Coleman against George Galloway only serve to prove how morally corrupt the present US government is. This is not only about the Bush regime but is indicative of a system of power that is accountable, only to corporate greed. The Galloway case is the biggest smoke screen to emerge in recent times to distract the public from the fact that the American and Western markets are under great commercial pressures.

As Hurricane Katrina revealed the US system is rotten to the core, riddled by class division between rich and poor. But still oil and profits are the priority and the ruling class will go to any length to secure its hegemony not only over the poor in the US but also in terms of world politics. But it's a smoke screen for other reasons.

Yesterday, on Wednesday October 26th 2005 it was announced that 2000 American military service men have been killed in Iraq, and for what? One thing for sure you can bet your bottom dollar that profits for the armaments industry will be, sky rocketing, just as they were in the previous war in Iraq. What we know is that this is an illegal war that was built on lies and Coleman, Bush and the neo-conservatives know that they are on a slippery slope to defeat.

We know that the real reason for war is to secure oil for the US market. In 2001 the Sunday Herald disclosed information from a US Government Cabinet meeting in April 2001, five months prior to 9/11 that 'Iraq remains a destabilising influence to the flow of oil to international markets from the Middle East' and that 'military intervention' was an option. The problem for the US in securing oil has been, exacerbated by Hugo Chavez's opposition to American Imperialism. Chavez remains an unstable and unpredictable American neighbour for the US government at least, even though Chavez has agreed to honour Venezuela's commitment to oil contracts to the US for the foreseeable future. The fact remains that 9/11 allowed the Bush government to launch an attack on Iraq even though we know that Al-Qaida was responsible for the attacks and Saddam Hussein wasn't.

The fact is that Iraq had nothing to do with the attack on the Twin Towers nor are there any weapons of mass destruction to be found anywhere in Iraq. Once this was finally established and accepted both the US and British governments shifted the emphasis onto Hussein the Dictator as reason for invasion. But this is unacceptable and has no moral justification whatsoever for there are dictators and tyrants elsewhere. George Galloway has stood up against the bullies that inhabit the corridors of power in the US.

Galloway is now officially enemy number one for opposing the war and standing up against the powers that have cynically attempted to justify a war based on lies and deceit. Galloway appeared before the Senate Committee in May 2005 after being accused by Coleman, via the media, of illegally profiting from Iraqi oil sales. There was no evidence. The fact is that the Senator was surprised that Galloway volunteered to give evidence before the committee and what a performance it was. Galloway not only trounced Coleman but also successfully refuted the crude allegations made against him. More importantly, Galloway reminded the Senator of the war in Iraq and referred to the warmongers as a 'pro-war lynch mob' who, were a part of a 'lickspittle Republican committee'. Galloway also told Coleman, 'I gave my heart and soul to stop you committing the disaster that you did commit in invading Iraq' and went onto to state 'everything I said about Iraq, I turned out to be right and you turned out to be wrong'. Galloway has pleaded to be perjured in the US but the chances of that happening are slim for Coleman does not want Galloway to remind him of the real reason for the smokescreen and that's the failed invasion of Iraq orchestrated by the US and British governments.
